Salem Academy is the oldest educational institution for girls and young women in the United States. Founded in 1772, Salem's Moravian founders believed that young women were entitled to the same education as boys. Since then, Salem Academy has provided girls in grades 9-12 an outstanding education. Salem has stayed true to its mission, while managing to evolve with the times to fully empower young women in our society. Both day and boarding students attend Salem Academy, but no matter which you are, there is a place for everyone in our diverse and inclusive community. Our beautiful grounds are adjacent to Salem College, and many of our juniors and seniors take classes at the College. The rigorous curriculum, close mentorship, supportive community, and fun memories lead to life-long success and alumnae that look back on Salem fondly. Our outstanding alumnae — more than 3,000 worldwide — lead and succeed in a variety of meaningful careers. Many of our alumnae are still active members in the Salem community. Once a Salem sister, always a Salem sister!
